Enter Violations (CMAINIT)
Use the Violation tab of the Case Initiation Maintenance form (CMAINIT) to enter and query on violations. Based on rules set up for your jurisdiction, events are automatically created for entered violations. For more about automatic event creation, click here.
Since violation rules can be defined to consider
if a person is incarcerated, be sure the Incarcerated indicator is appropriately
entered on the Demographics tab of the Person/Organization Maintenance
form (CPAIDEN) before you enter a violation here. Then, the system will
use the
correct rule to
automatically create events.
To enter violation information
Enter or search for the Party Type.
From the Block menu, select Next.
If you need to enter multiple counts of the same violation, enter the number of Counts.
Any citation number, violation date,
violation time, violation text, probable cause code, probable cause text,
or enhancement entered for a violation with multiple counts applies to
all counts. However, after you save your entries, you can modify these
fields for each count individually if necessary.
Enter the Citation Number associated with the violation.
Enter the Vio (Violation) Date and time. This is the date and time of the alleged violation. It can be a past or current date.
The system displays only active codes in the Violation field's list
of values (LOV). For this reason, you must enter the violation date and
time before entering or selecting a violation code.
Enter or select a Violation code. The Description displays automatically.
If applicable, enter an Inchoate value. The choices are A (Attempt), C (Conspiracy), and S (Solicitation).
Enter or select a Vio (Violation) Level. This specifies the severity of the violation (for example, F3 for 3rd degree felony).
The Severity Level is used when creating
multiple events using Charge Rules (CTRCRUL). Contexte schedules the events
according to the most severe violation.
If different from the current date and time, enter the File Date and time. This date cannot be a future date nor can it be before the case filing date.
Enter the Due Date. This is the date a fine or fees are due, or the date by which the party should take action.
Enter or select the Dist. (Distribution) Agency and Dist. (Distribution) Area.
These optional fields are necessary if
you intend fine distribution to occur according to a distribution
rule.
If you enter data in one field, you must enter data in the other field
as well.
Enter or select the City, County, State, and ZIP. More about ZIP code entry
Select the DMV Tracking check box if this violation should be flagged for reporting to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Contexte does not use this feature in any of its built-in reports or queries.
Enter any additional information about the violation in the Viol (Violation) Text field.
The field's maximum size is 78 characters. Add additional text by choosing Insert from the Record menu and continuing your text entry. Use the scroll bar at the right of the field to view the complete text.
Remember,
any text you enter may one day be viewed as public information.
Enter the Prob. (Probable) Cause code or select it from the list. The description of the probable cause code displays in the unlabeled field to the right.
Enter any additional Text that further explains the probable cause.
The field's maximum size is 78 characters. Add additional text by choosing Insert from the Record menu and continuing your text entry. Use the scroll bar at the right of the field to view the complete text.
If you use CaseStats and need to track additional violation information for reporting, select CaseStats Options in the navigation frame.
To enter another violation for the same party, select Next or Insert from the Record menu. ACS Contexte automatically saves the previous violation and assigns it a unique number indicating the order in which it was filed for the current case. The system also carries over the Citation Number, which you can change if necessary. Repeat steps 3-16.
When finished entering violations for the current party, Save. ACS Contexte automatically:
Creates any events associated with the violation on the Violation Rules form (CTRCRUL).
Assigns any fees associated with the violation on the Violation/Fine Rules form (CTRCFIN), provided you are defined for the current court and location on the User Court/Location Validation form (CTVUCLN).
For more information about validation and rule forms, see the ACS Contexte Setup Manual.
To enter enhancements to a violation, select Violation Enhancements in the navigation frame.
